On December 2nd, National Taipei University of Education celebrated its 128th anniversary with a grand ceremony, presided over by Principal Chen Ching-Ho. Distinguished guests from various sectors, including former Minister of the Interior Hsu Kuo-yung, Legislator Lee De-wei, Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City Su Chun-pin, Secretary-General of Taipei City Government Lee Tai-hsing, Dr. Hu Wei-zhen, a senior advisor to the Presidential Office, renowned vocal artist Wen-hsiu Chien, Commissioner Chang Ming-wen of the New Taipei City Department of Education, Director of the Yilan County Government Department of Education, Jian Hsin-bin. Deputy Commissioner of the Youth Affairs Bureau of Taoyuan City, Tu Chun-hui. Principal of Taipei Municipal University, Chiu Ying-hao, past principals of National Taipei University of Education, Shin-Jen Chang, Hsin-Fa Lin, and honorary chairpersons of the Alumni Association Liu Yi-quan and Zhang Qing-huang, graced the celebration. They joined alumni and current students from various locations in congratulating National Taipei University of Education on its 128th founding anniversary.
This celebration also marked as Principal Chen Ching-Ho’s first public address since his successful re-election. After a vote of confidence from the faculty and teachers in late October of the last year (112), Principal Chen, who had devoted his efforts to advancing institutional development over the past three years, secured the majority of votes from the faculty, ensuring his re-election and continued leadership.
Principal Chen, in his address at the anniversary celebration, highlighted the significant progress made in the university’s innovation and transformation over the past three years. He emphasized the enhanced administrative efficiency, sound financial management, and the creation of a healthy, happy, and sustainable campus. NTUE has established a strong brand and innovative features, gaining both national and international recognition. Notably, NTUE achieved its first entry into the QS Asia University Rankings Top 500 in 2021, maintaining a stable position for three consecutive years (2021-2023).
Principal Chen expressed gratitude for the trust and support he received during the re-election, pledging to continue working collaboratively with the entire university community to pursue the goal of becoming an “Integrated Innovative University in Education, Arts, and Science & Technology.” He emphasized the importance of ongoing support from various sectors, guests, and alumni in facing the challenges and high-level initiatives planned for the future, confident that with collective efforts, NTUE will overcome difficulties and achieve its mission.
Principal Chen also shared accomplishments and efforts in various aspects of the university’s development, including the integration of teacher education programs, strategic collaborations with industry and research institutions, and the establishment of nine major university-level characteristic research centers. These initiatives have contributed to the cultivation of students as innovative talents with essential skills in artificial intelligence, technology, English proficiency, and digital learning, preparing them for success in the workforce. The university has also successfully secured funding through fundraising activities, with over NT$50 million raised, supporting three major sustainable projects: “Excellence in Student Development”, “Departmental Leadership and Innovation” , and “International Leap of the School.” These efforts have led to numerous awards and recognition on both national and international levels.
The celebration ceremony for the National Taipei University of Education on December 2nd began with the lead singing by the National Taipei University of Education Alumni Chorus and the collective singing of the school song by all the attending guests, faculty, and students. Renowned alumna and vocal artist Professor Wen-hsiu Chien then delivered a heartfelt rendition of the song “Green Island Serenade”, which she had won an award for at the age of 8. Subsequently, Professor Chien led everyone in singing “Happy Birthday” to celebrate National Taipei University of Education’s 128th birthday.
Following President Chen’s welcoming speech, former Minister of the Interior Hsu Kuo-yung, Legislator Lee De-wei, Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City Su Chun-pin, Secretary-General of Taipei City Government Lee Tai-hsing, and honorary chairperson of the Alumni Association Liu Yi-quan took the stage to extend their blessings and congratulations to NTUE.
To celebrate the 128th anniversary, various exciting events were organized starting from November, including an art exhibition “Days of Tsai Ming-liang” at the National Taipei University of Education Art Museum, a music concert, a university-wide sports meet, an exhibition showcasing achievements in higher education, a sports performance event, a calligraphy event by distinguished teachers, and a campus carnival. These events served as platforms to showcase the academic achievements and vibrant energy of the university.In the event hosted by the MoNTUE, renowned calligraphers and painters are invited to create on-the-spot masterpieces. The resulting artworks, including traditional Chinese paintings and free Spring Festival couplets, will be generously gifted to the attending public. This initiative aims to share the joyous atmosphere of the school anniversary celebration with both the participating community and nearby residents.
